Meet the Family: Wendy

In honor of her seventh board anniversary this month, today's Meet the Family Friday features Board Member Wendy! 🎉

Wendy has been with Upward Scholars as a donor and supporter since our founding in 2010 and has served as a mentor, tutor, and conversation partner to our students. On our Board, she is the Chair of the Board Governance & Recruitment Committee and has served on the Fund Development & Marketing Committee and the Marketing & Communications Working Group.

Wendy first became involved with Upward Scholars when she volunteered in the Sequoia Adult School ESL classes. ”I met so many intelligent, capable, and motivated students who just needed information and assistance to enroll in and progress through ESL and college courses. Lack of resources should never keep anyone who has the drive, ambition, persistence, and capacity from advancing their education. I love the fact that Upward Scholars understands that the resources students need go beyond financial and provides a variety of services to help remove the various barriers that keep students from attaining higher education.”

Like many, Wendy has witnessed the profound impact education has on the financial, physical, and emotional well-being of individuals, their families, and the community at large. "This is what Upward Scholars students are striving to do," she says. "I am so honored and delighted to work with our students and see them make steady progress in their education and careers despite all the challenges they often face.”
