Spring 2023 Community College Enrollment

SMCCD Students: Open enrollment for Spring 2023 begins November 16, 2022.

PCCD Students: Open enrollment for Spring 2023 begins November 21, 2022.

Spiritual Counseling with Reverend Gerardo García Palacios

Upward Scholars offers all students and their families free spiritual and emotional counseling with Rev. Gerardo García Palacios. The pandemic has affected all of us, and we want you to express your struggles and be heard in a safe, confidential, and virtual environment. People of all beliefs are welcome, and Rev. Gerardo is English-Spanish bilingual.

Schedule a session with Rev. Gerardo by emailing him at pastorgarcia1679@outlook.com or calling/texting him at (650) 387-9174. Tell him your full name, and if a family member schedules a session, they should also give the name of the Upward Scholars student they were referred by.

United Against Hate Week

Upward Scholars stands united against hate!

United Against Hate Week is a call for local civic action to stop the hate and implicit biases that threaten the safety of our neighborhoods, towns, and cities. Stand united with Redwood City and North Fair Oaks against hate by attending one of the events on the flyer. Events start today and go through the end of next week.

Holiday Toy and Book Program Sign-Ups

Families who live in Redwood City/North Fair Oaks and have children under 12 years old can sign up to receive toys delivered by Santa this year. Sign-ups are open now until November 18. A few documents are required to sign up. Review them and find more information on the flyer.

BACHAC Community Mammograms

Bay Area Community Health Advisory Council (BACHAC) in partnership with Mills Peninsula and the Peninsula Health Care District is honored to offer free early-detection mammograms to uninsured women in the community.

If you would like to register to receive your mammogram through this program, please call Evelia Chairez at 650.483.9663 or Julio Campos at 650.888.6071. Whether or not you have health insurance, you may qualify for financial assistance.

An early-detection mammogram is for you if:

  • You have not had a mammogram in the past year,

  • If you do not have symptoms such as pain, lumps, or redness in the breast area,

  • If you are over 40 years old.

Cañada College English Conversation Group

The Cañada College English Conversation Group is back! Join them weekly or whenever you can using this Zoom link on Thursdays from 4–5 pm to practice your English conversation skills.

Tax-Aid

Tax-Aid offers free tax help for households that earn less than $58,000. Their expert Bay Area tax volunteers give you the confidence of properly prepared taxes and can offer tax support and advice year-round in your preferred language. They can even help you claim your Child Tax Credit if you haven't already done so. Click here to learn more. Their website is available in multiple languages.

Expanded Learning Opportunities Program

Are you a talented, enthusiastic, and diverse individual looking to impact students positively? Join Community-Based Organizations in supporting Redwood City School District students in their extended day learning programs! The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program brings together the Redwood City School District and multiple Community-Based Organizations to support Redwood City School District students in an Extended Day Program. This is a paid position opportunity through one of the partner community-based organizations. They will train and support you in sparking curiosity and illuminating the world of opportunity available through education. Complete the interest form here.

Rosalie Rendu Center Administrative Assistant

The Rosalie Rendu Center is hiring an Administrative Assistant to maintain student, volunteer, and donor databases; provide communication and clerical support to the Executive Director and other staff members; and assist in organizing program-related activities. ¡Conectémonos! Program Manager at New Voices for Youth (North Fair Oaks)

The ¡Conectémonos! Program allows youth from North Fair Oaks to help parents use technology to connect with schools and other service providers. The Program Manager will work with North Fair Oaks youth to develop strategies that engage and empower parents to gain confidence using technology in their community. New Voices for Youth (NV4Y) Program Manager (East Palo Alto)

In NV4Y, students from underserved communities make videos about their communities. Meeting in afterschool centers, students choose subjects, practice interviews, and create and edit digital narratives. The Program Manager works with members of the Steering Committee to inspire young people to use video for advocacy about their communities. To learn more and apply, click here.

Sequoia District Adult School (SAS) Job Board

Immigrants Rising List of Scholarships and Fellowships

Immigrants Rising has curated this list of scholarships and fellowships that don’t require proof of U.S. citizenship. The list has general application eligibility requirements, including education level, region/state, and immigration status (e.g. DACA, TPS, in-state tuition eligibility). Only opportunities with due dates within the next 180 days are shown in the list. Use the filters to find scholarships that could be right for you and click on the scholarship to learn more and apply!
