Oliver Araque
Oliver’s journey from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, to the bustling, energetic streets of New York encapsulates an immigrant’s tale of resilience, determination, and an unyielding belief in the transformative power of education. His fascination with UC Berkeley, a distant dream in his high school days, was ignited by Robert Reich’s enlightening lectures on Wealth and Poverty. This experience kindled a fire that illuminated Oliver’s path for years. Bolstered by unwavering determination, he immigrated to the Bay Area with his parents, where he diligently worked to become a competitive candidate for a transfer to UC Berkeley.
After two years of steadfast effort, Oliver’s dream was realized. He graduated with a degree in Political Economy from UC Berkeley, a milestone that only spurred him to aim higher. Aspiring to delve into the world of finance in the capital of the world, the Big Apple, Oliver’s journey led him to become an Associate at JP Morgan, where he adeptly navigates the intricacies of the finance industry.
Oliver stands as living proof that dreams, no matter how lofty, are attainable. His journey underscores the vibrancy and accessibility of the American Dream. As the son of two Upward Scholars students, Oliver is thrilled to support immigrants like them throughout their journeys to economic mobility.
