Meet the Family: Irvin

Happy Meet the Family Friday! To celebrate Pride Month, we are highlighting proud members of the Upward Scholars LGBTQIA+ community! 🏳️‍🌈

Irvin is a Mexican immigrant student who, just last month, received a Preparation for Academic Scholarship and Success (PASS) Certificate at Cañada College and will be recognized at the Upward Scholars Graduation Celebration this Sunday.🎓 Of the support he receives, Irvin says, "Upward Scholars contributes to my personal and professional development by unconditionally supporting me and encouraging me in my personal projects." During the pandemic, Irvin began a bakery business and is often in high demand among his peers. 🎂

As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Irvin feels fortunate and valued within the Upward Scholars family. "I am proud to be part of this great family because it shows me and everyone inclusion, respect, tolerance, and love. Thank you, Upward Scholars, for giving me the opportunity to grow and for setting a great example for us to be a united community."
